CURRENT CONSTRUCTION

Dolphin Station Park and Ride Transit Facility

Description : MDX in partnership with Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has completed a Project Environmental Impact Report (PEIR) to evaluate a park-and-ride/terminal facility on approximately 15 acres of publicly owned land north of NW 12th Street, just west of the Florida’s Turnpike (HEFT). The transit facility will support MDT’s SR 836/Dolphin Expressway Express Bus Service, provide a terminus or stop for several local bus routes serving the Dolphin Mall and the cities of Sweetwater and Doral, as well as serving a potential future east-west commuter rail service on the CSX line. Miami-Dade County has asked MDX to fast track the planning, design and construction of the Dolphin Station. FDOT will fund 100% of the planning and design development, and share the construction cost with MDT. Miami-Dade District 12 Commissioner Jose “Pepe” Diaz has been instrumental in advancing this effort. The facility will be operated and maintained by MDT.

Project Status : Clearing and grubbing activities began in November and will continue through January. Project staff members work to finalize design features for the new bus terminal and the improvements along NW 12 Street. It is estimated that the facility will open at the end of 2017.
